Not hitched like that. Hitched like I’m all set to tow now.
It must have been Colleen, one of my favorite bloggers, over at Fresh Vintage who got me day dreaming about vintage campers (and selling at markets out of them) before I even left France. Here’s probably the photo that got me started on my little obsession. (If you’re thinking about getting one yourself, check out her post on her own search – great tips. I’ve also used her methods for lots of other items online.)

Now that I’m in California a good half the year, I’m focusing at selling at the local shows of California. So I bought myself a beautiful tow vehicle, added a hitch, and am loving thinking of ways to display. Can you imagine how cool it must be to have a camper like that at your booth? I try to imagine, a lot. But now that I’ve had a chance to get an upclose look at the practicalities and my budget, I’m actually going to opt for a little cargo trailer for now (way more boring but I’m even excited about that) until I see how the market selling goes over here.
So far in 2012 I’ve sold at Alameda, Sacramento, the two pop-ups: Room with a Past and Paris Flea Market. Next weekend (last weekend of the month), am very excited to be part of the first ever indoor Treasure Island Flea. I just got word that I was accepted today – woo hoo. ( There’s a market geek stirring inside me, I can feel it.)

The Treasure Island building was built for the 1939 World’s Fair. My dad was telling me that they built that island just for the world’s fair (by just piling rock upon rock for a year straight), then it got brought into military service in WW2. I’ve never been inside before and bet it’s a beauty. I’ll let you know on that after the show.
Once I have info on my booth number, I’ll post it in the blog – in case you’re planning on attending. I’d love to meet you.
A bientot!

Ooh…now you have my latent vintage geek tempted to come out of hiding!
Great pics!
Oh my gosh! Oh my goodness! YAY!!!! I’m so excited for you! This is such great news Jill. I know that you will love having a trailer, and in time, a lovely vintage trailer will present itself to you. Wishing you the very best on this new adventure. : )
By the way…this Treasure Island pic reminded me of Catalina Island. Have you ever been there?
You’re not in France anymore?
Congrats on the new family member! Looks like great fun . Enjoy!
Thanks, Julie!
Meredith, just half the year in France now. Bi-continental, I am. Hope this finds you well!
Hi Therese! So glad you love the idea about the trailer. Cool, right? Yes, I used to go to Catalina pretty often. Same era. The house I lived in when I went to high school had a view of it.
Nourish that inner vintage geek. She needs you. Happy Birthday, cherie!
